Designer Franz Staffelbach's apartment occupies the whole storey of a modern house in Seefeld, an attractive quarter in Zurich, and is open-plan. Its visually separated zones are marked only with sliding doors, high bookshelves and an «island» constituted by the kitchen and the bathroom. Possessed of a wonderful view of Zurich, the kitchen is done up in quiet colours -- blue and anthracitic -- and always lavishly sun-lit. The architect's working place is enclosed within bookshelves as if inside a cozy cave. The colour pattern of this part of the dwelling comprises blue and red which vary in tints depending on the sunlight tilt angle. Plenty of natural wood is employed in the interior, including oak parquet all over the living area and huge maple sliding doors separating the bedroom and the living area. Franz Staffelbach is an enthusiastic collector of classical furniture which he takes along with him for many years wherever he moves. Generally, this interior is a good example of the architect's favourite design stylistics -- taking the 1930--1950s classics as a basis, he finds unique solutions. And the main condition of a successful project is, according to the designer, impartial concern.
