The two hundred year history of this unusual place in the southwest of France, proud of its hot springs, is quite eventful. The small village was named in the honor of the empress Eugenie, the spouse of Napoleon III, who used to come here to rest. In the 19th century Eugenie les Bains turned into a veritable balneological resort. However, the periods of prosperity alternated with the periods of decline and oblivion. The resort was deserted for over 100 years.
