A true oriental restaurant has recently opened its doors in Nizhni Novgorod. «Skull-cap» occupies the first floor of the Stroganoff merchants' house that is now an architectural monument. The original space was long and narrow with wide stairwells and massive columns in the center. Working on the project the designers tended to progress from stereotypes associated with the eastern color, but embody their feeling and view of the East. Still, the chosen image refers to the mysterious and heady atmosphere of a Central Asian town in the time of Omar Khayyam. Every room of this eclectic restaurant has its own character and mood. Arabesques and wall paintings, furniture form and architectural elements are borrowed from real life. One of the principles here is «exterior in interior». Among the interior's details there is a pergola twined with vine, hexahedral cube, antique carved doors and elegant balconies. Plain smooth silk, oriental carpets and stone stir up imagination and evoke numerous associations.
